So I thought it is a good place with the right target group for my products to be exposed.

What I was up to since Easter

Stage Three:
The last 2 weeks I've been only in the garden (the inside garden, the outside garden is yet to come) and today when I was planting the last of the beans seeds the skies opened and I was wet through, but it was such a nice feeling to have and feel the rain after 26 days of no rain. April month was really dry (only 11 ml of rain) and had a new record in sunshine hours...
the garden was been under my attention and made a lot of flower planting and cleaning and in some weeks it will be in a glorious shape.

Stage Two:
SO here is the result of the 2nd large project in the garden. I would not have been able to do it without my sister's help.
Since we moved in this house the 2nd carport was looking like a graveyard and had a lot of things that were meant to be removed ages ago, but now there is order...

Stage One:
This was the major work done on (of all days) Easter 2009: I know that is not what people usually do on Easter Sunday, but I had this in my head and sight for far too long years...
The weather was great, my sister was itching for garden work, we had nothing planned for the day and here is what the Oreifig girls can do when they feel like doing some physical work...

This project started almost 8 years ago, there was a pond in the garden and we did not want to have it esp. when we were planning to have a child, so Sylvia decided that it could be a nice place to have in the garden. a lot of digging was done, then a lot of stone moving was done, a lot of cement was mixed (even when I was 7 month pregnant) and the walls were up. My herbs are planted and the flowers were put in place, even a rabbit lived in this corner, BUT now it is a nice place to sit in and have a nice meal when the weather is good...

I recycled everything I've found in the garden (sorted out a huge amount of garbage) and the only thing I bought was the sand...

I'm a CABTeam member: Carried Away Etsy Bag Makers Team and Krystal Hosmer of Sol Sisters came up with this game. Here you can read the rules and your welcome to join us.

The bag I carried today has a story: I was invited to participate at the AWC in Copenhagen fundraiser bag auction. I've donated 2 ECO shoppers and given 2 as presents. There were so many bags donated, real ones, knock offs, shopping,travel, ethic, evening, etc...

This one was one of them: black leather: Fretderic - Paris, it is second hand, can be used as shoulder bag and as a rucksac. I like to travel light but I have the things I use in:
Today I had the following: sunglasses, car/house keys, asthma spray, bus/train cards, pen, lipbalm, papertissue, mobile and a change of dypers for my son, Oh I just noticed that my plastic cards wallet was left out of this photo, I forgot to put it back (bad habit, I had in my pants pocket).

Since I make bags, I usually carry one of mine or carry one of the bags I've swapped with fantastic bag makers around the world, so I have many bags and this was the latest I got and I wonder what would be the next bag I use...

I finished 4 ECO Shoppers yesterday (February 26, 2009) to take with me to the American Women's Club in Copenhagen www.awcdenmark.org and we had such a lovely time. There were so many bags: original, fakes, ethnic, shopping bags, ECO shoppers (mine), travel bags, evening/party bags, funny bags... I think about 60 bags.

The money raised is fully going to the FAWCO Foundation, a non-profit that aids charitable, scientific and educational programmes and supporting the rights of women and children throughout the world.

I finished sewing the name tags on the train, so they when hot form under my hands...
I got some ladies to try to stop using plastic bags and these bags severed a double if not triple good cause...

The fabrics I've used here were delivered to me by mistake and I promised the shop (www.fabric.com) to use them for charity. They were a hit and I hope that the owners will be happy with them and the money will be used for a good cause.

I’m a member of the Carried Away Etsy Bag Makers Team and it is Sunday so it is a Promote a sister day. I was looking around to take my pick and it was a hard to choose, too many talented and different artist, that I would like to tell about.
Before I go any further, I just have to say that I never wrote on my blog, I’ve used it to load up my photos for some sort of backup. I’ve just had my first coffee and the sun is still trying to shine (doubt it would ever do today) and my family is up and running a bit too early for my taste, but I’m happy as long as my little is running about playing happily.
So, my choice is Nancy Tanguay of www.uniquelynancy.etsy.com, I was taken by the bright fabric choices she’s made and the unexpected combinations of fabrics and shapes too, but one should see her quilts, It is OH MY GOD in capital letters, Nancy’s bags are so funny esp. the ones that are shaped as a teapot, since Nancy is a professional quilter, her bags are made in great detail and variety that when you browse though her shop, will definitely find a favorite. I sure did. Happy Sunday!

My exhibition at Sorø Central library

Now that I have slept a bit (not enough though) I can write this blog about my 2nd exhibition at Sorø central library. First things first: I owe a big thank you for Ulla, she was super great help in putting up the bags as you see here, Thanks to little Jakob for being so tolerant in waiting for us while working, and huge thanks to Tomas and Emil in helping me all the time I was sitting at the sewing machine and busy all the time to get the bags done.

Since we came back home from holiday, I was mainly working on my bags and the one week I made 18 bags, so you could imagine how the house looked, the dining table was mainly occupied with sewing machine, fabrics and half made bags, my nights were mainly to finish up the bags that need hand stitching and more sewing...
The night before the exhibition was worked literally until, my eyes could not stay open, but I was done with all the things I've planned to have...

The exhibition has 3 themes: ECO Shopper bags, Mother & Child sets, Japanese inspired, Zakka bags in different shapes, sizes, etc.
There are 58 bags on display and one, of course, one can buy any (given that it is not sold or reserved)or place orders to make the bag of your like after being inspired of seeing all the bags... Please Feel welcome and free to drop by and have a look.

I have been away for 2 weeks away from everything that says make bags, I have to admit I was saturated with bag, fabrics, and making more bags. Best things I could do is to go home to visit my family in Budapest, both were so inspiring and relaxing, hot would also be the operative word: too hot for my taste, but some of the late night rain was so invigourating. Family activities were high on the list and it was a pleasure to see my little one (after some days) switch to Hungarian and be happy with his surroundings.

Now that I'm back home I start with next weekend having a stand at the fair in Lynge village, so if you are in the neighbourhood, please do drop by, there is a bit of everything...

Emil's choice of fabric

This is the first bag I've ever made for my son. He was pretty clear of which fabric he wanted me to use. I've showed him some 6 different fabrics and he just wanted this one. He is happy with it and it is of a good size to have books and toys. Since it is for his use, the rucksack is washable. I have to say that it came out very nicely...

Yes, I know, soon it will be an animal farm here, but these fabrics are ever so cute...
A rucksack for children's use perfect for books, toys. The straps could be carried in 2 ways due to the help of the zipper: the traditional way as a backpack with 2 straps and the second way is to zip up and then it is one strap to through over the shoulder. The strap is 62 cm (24 1/2") long and ca. 6 cm (2 3/8") wide (when zipped)

About the bag:
Made of heavy linen: olive-green and neutral with chicken prints. The lining is of cotton in red. The drawstring is black leather about 1/2 cm thick.

Measurements:
Width: 32 cm (12 5/8") wide
Length: 37 cm (14 5/8") deep

Great to carry books and toys in, could be use by boys and girls equally.
Heavy linen with ladybird red print combined with natural heavy linen. The lining is of light brown and white gingham. For closure I use Velcro tape sewn on vertically (It reduces the tear when opening it) The strap is adjustable and removable (3 cm and at full length 72 cm (28 3/8") and when it is pulled to the shortest length 45 cm (17 7/8")).
Since it is a bag for children use, it is washable on 30 degrees.

Measurements:
Width: 33 cm (13")
Length: 27 cm (10 5/8")
Length with strap: (with shortest strap length 47 cm (18 1/2") and at the longest 63 cm (42 7/8"))

I'm pleased with the first attempt. As a mother I look at this set with practical, critical eye. What should this set give me? Mummy's bag is very roomy, it can take up to a little shopping in it, sits good on the shoulder and have control over it, when you need to have a grip on your child. It is totally washable, should it get dirty, a tour in the wash machine at 30 degrees on soft programme will do the trick. Lovely to look at and it gives a good topic to chat about to past time should your child be bored waiting (that is at least what mine did). Count the sheep...

My child likes to take some toys when we are on an outing and it is perfect to carry his Lego set, or his farm set (whatever your kid is in to at the moment). It is a rucksack, so it is easy to carry and has his hands are free to get hold of. Kids like to do the same things mummy and daddy are doing and carrying a bag is very funny to do. There is not one bag, that my son did not get hold of, just as I'm showing it to my husband and right away he would try to put it over his shoulder or his head and just be very very happy with that. Simple pleasures...

Lovely bag, it was nice to make. The fabrics are heavy linen (natural and printed with sheep in black) the lining is cotton (white and light lilac) gingham Fitted with an inside pocket (ca. 21 (8 1/4") by 12 cm (4 3/4")). Handles are of natural woven rope dressed up in linen and sewn together to give it the shape.

About the bag: roomy, sits good on the shoulder, washable ( at 30 degrees on soft programme), funny and it comes very handy in picking a topic to chat with a child to pass the waiting time... Count the sheep...

Width the sides and the bottom: 11 cm (4 3/8")

What a productive day! I even managed to catch with this bullet point on my long list of "to do things". This is my first try in making this child rucksack in the up coming collection of mother - child bag.

The target group representative in my house hold (my son of 2,5 years old) when he saw it, he right away asked to try it on and wanted to sleep with it on his back...

Supported with iron-on interfacing and for closure a small size magnetic snap. Decorated with bow made of the same fabric as the lining. The fabrics are pretreated which means that it is washable at 30 degrees (Fahrenheits).

Marketing campaign bags for giveaways

Well, I have been busy making these ECO shoppers for my marketing campaign. With the e-shop up, not I'm working on spreading out the word about my work. So far I have had the local paper to run a press release, had a journalist to come over for a java coffee / cupcakes and had a long interview. Yesterday I got the photographer here to take some photos to accompany the big article (he got some nice photos made...).

So now,
I have the little albums: ready,
the bags: ready (regardless that we were bummed with a day care strike for one and a half week and it meant that I did the sewing when my son was sleeping...),
the addresses of lady journals and periodicals: ready
and just awaiting my new labels...

About the bags:
All made of medium - heavy weight cottons, The handles are extra supported to be able to handle the carrying. The sizes varies from medium size to large, so they can house a lot, but I guess one should deiced how much you want to carry.
All of them are machine washable on 40 degrees.

Stine is having her confirmation this Sunday and we are invited. So, with Susanne's help in choosing the fabrics, I made this messenger bag for her. I hope that she will like it.

The bag can house 2 large books (38 cm wide and 30 cm deep) and is furnished with a double pocket in the inside. The strap is adjustable to be very long to wear the bag across. Dark blue and is of the traditional polyester woven bag strap at 5 cm wide. Fitted with a magnetic snap for clouser.

The fabric is cotton, printed with the theme "Paradise birds" and combined with high quality woven cotton (Black and blue). The lining is of heavy woven cotton.

Can be washed on a short and mild programme or by hand.

I'm starting my marketing campaign to promote my e-shop! Therefore, I'm sending out as give away bag to some of the people I know that would be interested in seeing and using my bags. I'm also sending some bag samples to lady weekly, monthly magazines.

This one is the first and I've just sent off with Tomas to the Rector of the design School in Kolding - Denmark. I hope that Elsebeth will like it and use it!

It is a good size shopping bag that can be folded and tide up in a small parcel. Washable in the wash machine on 30 degrees. Made of heavy drapery and is able to take a lot of things in.

Dear Friends,
I proudly present you a new milestone of my working life: www.sylviascreation.com. Yes! I've done it and now I call myself a self-employed bag designer and producer.

What a journey to go through and to now stand here and look back. It took me years of pondering and thinking, but effectively the last 3 months were hectic and fruitful: designing bags and organising the administrative and legal bit of setting up a business. I had fantastic support from Tomas, Emil (was not sick at all and slept through the nights...), my family and friends.

My chest is beating hard while writing this email, happy, satisfied, sleepy and grateful to actually get to do what I like and I'm hopeful that it will work.

I owe a fantastically big thanks and gratitude to Ying and Marnie who made my homepage /e-shop a wonderful reality.

Ying and Marnie are the owners of www.mandarinaconcept.com: Mandarina Concept is a supplier of content management systems. They design website and localize the website to the English-speaking and Chinese-speaking markets or other local markets in line with your business strategy.
They have given me the website I hoped for and have been fantastic, patient support in teaching me how to get started.

The website is now in English, but at a later stage will be in Danish and Hungarian (I take one step at a time). My aim was to have a homepage / e shop that is calm, user friendly, focusing on the products and not the background. I plan to have a newsletter function to keep the interested ones updated regularly.
In the e shop I intend to sell other products made by other persons who equally create unique and fine pieces or work, hence the official name of my company is: Sylvia's Creation & More...

I've made this bag a long while ago and kept telling myself that there is still something missing and I´ve added the black feather boa around the neck. I'm very happy with the results.

I'm also experimenting with using white as a background in my photos (work might be needed on my eshop) Man, the colours change by the second and you can feel it in the photos, the colours and the personality of the bags... It is an other thing to learn by doing...

The Leather string is decorated with hand polished natural stones.
